We are the product of the process of evolution, and … we have become the process itself, through the emergence and evolution of our consciousness, our awareness, our capacity to imagine and anticipate the future, and to choose from among alternatives.

Jan Inglis MSc.PhD. has a background as a therapist, educator, facilitator and artist. Her work and studies have been motivated by questions regarding how people faced challenges and potentially evolved ways to transform the seemingly overwhelming situations they find themselves in. This inquiry has led her through several careers including a focus on individual well-being as an occupational therapist and then as a body focused psychotherapist and teacher. Motivated to address pressing issues of collective social and ecological well-being, her studies led her into adult development and complexity sciences and the field of citizen engagement, public issue analysis, decision making and deliberative democracy. Recognizing the challenges we as global citizens’ face in addressing climate change, stimulated another layer of study regarding global economics and governance, including how we have socially constructed unsustainable frameworks and need to co-construct more sustainable structures and practices at many integrated scales. Jan has worked with Joanna Macy’s methods of transforming despair into active hope since 1984. She has an MSc in Holistic Science from Schumacher College and a PhD in Social Science from Tilburg University. She enjoys living, gardening, and hiking in the beautiful setting of both Nelson, B.C. and Victoria, B.C. Canada.
